Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Pediatric)
Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position in a 30-bed Operating Room unit specializing in Pediatric patients (Newborn to 17 years old) at a Women and Children's hospital.
- Shift: 5x8 hour shifts with some weekday and weekend on-call duties (rotating schedule).
- No floating to sister facilities.
- Permanent address must be at least 75 miles from the facility (no locals accepted).
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience (higher requirement prevails).
- Prior travel experience is required; no first-time travelers accepted.
- Experience in Pediatric General OR and General OR.
- Skills required: Scrub and circulate experience.
- Preferred skills: IV start, robotic experience, and experience working within pediatric and women's specialty settings.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for West Virginia (pending WV license accepted but must be active to start).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA only, no pending certs allowed).
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification (AHA only).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA only).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) may be required depending on unit.
- Other certifications may be required based on unit specifics (e.g., CHEMO, TNCC).
- Pass/fail testing (EKG, medication calculation, blood administration) required for nursing candidates.
Call & Schedule Requirements
- On-call duties required, including some weeknights and weekends.
- Self-scheduling for call shifts.
- No guaranteed blocked schedule; must meet unit needs.
Additional Requirements
- Must have worked in pediatric and women's specialty settings.
- Flu vaccination required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medically exempt with documentation.
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required (proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted).
- Must provide 1 reference from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within the past year.
- Must complete annual skills checklist for specialty.
Health & Background Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (no placeholders or pending results).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, stating candidate is in good health and free from communicable diseases.
- Annual fit mask testing (N95) required; accommodations available if needed.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declinations accepted; exemptions require approval).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or documented immunity.
- Varicella vaccination or documented immunity.
- Annual TB questionnaire for positive TB responders.
Orientation & Training
- Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) including Cerner Infusion Management training.
- Must complete required in-service training modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours).
- Pass/fail testing is part of in-service training.
- Review and sign facility-specific policies (dress code, blood administration, math calculation packet, EKG review, time and attendance, medical release, vaccination exemption forms if applicable).
Important Notes
- No locals accepted; permanent address must be at least 75 miles away.
- Pending license accepted but must be active before starting.
- Flu vaccine refusal without medical proof will disqualify candidate during flu season.
- Prior travel experience is mandatory; no first-time travelers.
- Candidate must be willing to work rotating call shifts including weekends.
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with pediatric and women's health experience who have prior travel contract experience and are seeking a travel assignment in a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center with a Level IV NICU.
