Description

Job Summary: Registered Nurse (Telemetry)

Location: Boise, Idaho
Specialty: Telemetry (Floors 3 & 7)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in telemetry nursing
  • Specialty Experience: Must have post-procedural cardiac experience (cath lab, ablations, open heart surgery)
  • Preferred Experience: PCU and Stepdown experience preferred
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required
  • Skills:
    • Ability to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips (twice per shift)
    • Experience with titratable drips including set rate cardiac drips, amiodarone, cardizem, dopamine, and dobutamine
    • Heparin drip titration required; insulin drip experience not required (training provided if needed)

Prior Travel Experience

  • Prior travel experience preferred but not required

Unit Details

  • Beds:
    • 3rd Floor: 20 beds (cardiac focus, post-op procedural, open heart post-op day 1, TAVRs, ablations, pacemakers, medical telemetry)
    • 7th Floor: 35 beds (general telemetry, post-procedural overflow, CHF, sepsis, electrolyte imbalances, post-stroke)
  • Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Support Staff:
    • 3rd Floor: 3 CNAs
    • 7th Floor: 5 CNAs
    • CNA ratio typically 1:8 depending on census and staffing
  • Respiratory Therapy: RT available on each floor managing high respiratory needs (high flow, BiPAP, CPAP); RNs may assist but RT manages treatments
  • Telemetry Techs: Remote telemetry techs on 3rd floor; nurses expected to read and interpret telemetry independently

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Shift: 7am - 7pm
  • Scheduling: Schedule made 6 weeks in advance; flexibility required to fill gaps; block scheduling not guaranteed (max 5 shifts in a row)
  • Weekend Requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Days: Sat/Sun, Nights: Fri/Sat)
  • Holiday Requirement: May be asked to work some holidays, but not all
  • Floating: Travelers are first to float between floors 3 & 7 and may float to other medical-surgical or telemetry units within the hospital and sister facilities
  • Orientation: 2 shifts (1 on 3rd floor, 1 on 7th floor)
  • Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed

  • Traveler-friendly facility with leadership that treats travelers like permanent staff
  • High likelihood for contract extensions
  • Charge nurse present on each unit, typically does not take patient assignments unless necessary
  • Crisis and resource nurses available in-house if needed
