Job Opportunity: Ambulatory Surgery RN (Pre and Post Op)
Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 15 weeks
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care in ambulatory care settings focusing on pre-operative, post-operative, and transfer of patient care. Care is based on current standards from the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) and the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Responsibilities include:
- Preoperative and pre-procedure care
- Post-operative and post-procedure care
- Outpatient services for medical, oncology, procedure, surgical, emergency/inpatient add-on, Phase II recovery, and gastroenterology patients
- Use nursing process to assess patient needs, develop care plans, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes for patients ranging from neonate to geriatric populations
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse program
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- EPIC experience required (transitioning from Meditech to EPIC)
- Strong background in pre and post-operative nursing care
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of ASPAN and AORN standards of care
- Ability to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and life-threatening emergencies and respond appropriately
- Critical thinking skills to provide safe patient care in a fast-paced environment
- Effective team member and liaison between patients and staff
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills
- Professional communication and demeanor at all times
- High level of mental and emotional tolerance, tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers
