Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Seneca, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
  • Call and Float: Required; floating limited to qualified units with documented competencies
  • Patient Ratios:
    • 1:1 with labor patients
    • 1:2 with Cytotec inductions
    • 1:1 with magnesium sulfate patients
    • 1:3 with couplet (mother-baby) care
    • 1:1 if baby goes to sick nursery
  • Unit Responsibilities:
    • Cross-trained in labor and delivery, circulator role, acute care nursery, OB triage
    • Care for GYN surgery patients
    • Perform hearing screenings
  • Medication System: Omnicell
  • Charting System: EPIC (1 year experience required)

Required Qualifications

  • License: Registered Nurse (RN) license for South Carolina
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Labor and Delivery)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers may be considered based on experience
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
    • AWHONN Intermediate
    • BLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
    • NRP (AHA Advanced only)
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN)
    • Lactation Certificate for Baby Friendly designation (valid within 5 years)
  • Additional Recommended Certifications:
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – check unit requirements
    • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – check unit requirements
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) – check unit requirements
  • Testing Requirements:
    • Pass/Fail Testing for Medication and Fetal Monitoring exams (passing score 84%, two attempts allowed)
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (annual)
  • Competencies:
    • Core Parts I, II, and III annual training and exams (including universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, etc.)
  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check within 12 months of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
    • Fingerprinting if applicable (based on residency and state requirements)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
    • Immunizations and titers: TB (True 2-step or equivalent), Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, positive titer, or declination)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working in high-risk areas)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption (not required for 100% remote)
    • Drug screening within 1 year and updated annually (5-panel minimum)
  • Other:
    • Driver’s license required for computer access and must be carried on duty
    • Badge photo required (passport style, light background, no obstructions)
    • Completion of online orientation modules within 72 hours of assignment
    • Floating policy acknowledgment required

Additional Notes

  • Floating is required but limited to qualified areas only.
  • First-time travelers may be reviewed depending on years of experience.
  • The facility is Baby Friendly, emphasizing lactation support and care.
  • The Respirator Fit Test will be completed onsite during orientation.
  • Candidates must complete all required testing and modules prior to start; failure to pass required exams will result in cancellation.
  • Documentation must be verifiable and current as per facility standards.
