Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Sidney, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Nights, 3x12 hour shifts (7pm-7am), every 3rd weekend
Start Date: ASAP


Job Details

  • ACLS certification is mandatory
  • BLS and PALS certifications required
  • First-time travelers are welcome (no prior travel experience required)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): ARC, AHA, or US Department of Defense accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support): ARC, AHA, or US Department of Defense accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ER, preferred for RRTs, required as applicable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure): Required for OB units
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Preferred but not required for ER
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required for Psych units (online courses not accepted)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum RN experience required for Med Surg

Licensure & Verification

  • Must hold a valid Ohio nursing license
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Primary source verification of state license required

Background & Health Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required (Ohio BCI fingerprinting only; must complete fingerprint appointment within 48 hours of contract signing)
  • Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within last 12 months (physician statement)
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap within 10 years or facility-specific declination
    • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer or declination
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, 3-dose vaccine series, or declination (must sign declination forms)
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (preferred, not required)
  • N95 fit test within past 12 months (3M 9205 model); on-site fit testing possible but not preferred
  • Respirator medical clearance annually if respirator use is required

Orientation & Competency

  • New Employee Orientation (NEO) module required prior to orientation (1-2 hours)
  • Medication test and rhythm analysis during orientation (2 attempts allowed)
  • Unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually
  • Core competency testing and HIPAA acknowledgment required

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of I9 or attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service
  • Residency declaration form if working on a compact license
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility for over 1 year

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Med Surg unit, night shift
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
  • Every 3rd weekend required

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with Med Surg experience who holds current Ohio licensure and certifications, is comfortable working night shifts, and is ready for a travel contract assignment.
