Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
- Schedule: Weekend requirement every other weekend
- Floating: May float to ED observation unit
- Patient Ratios: 1:4
- Scrubs Color: Royal Blue
- Orientation: Bi-weekly
- First-Timer Friendly: Yes
- Local Candidates: Accepted (within 75 miles)
- Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted
Required Qualifications
- License: North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license in hand
- Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in specialty (Registered Nurse)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Preferred Certification: CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) — training provided onsite if not currently held
Required Skills & Competencies
- Ability to work in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment
- Flexibility to float to ED observation unit as needed
- Adherence to patient ratio standards (1:4)
- Completion of unit-specific competency exams
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Up-to-date immunizations including:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for the 2025-26 season (no exemptions)
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, education verification, and sanction lists within 90 days of start
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Employment application with 7 years of work history
- Completion of all required online modules prior to orientation
- Setup of a facility-specific guest account prior to clearance
- Compliance with facility-specific competency checklists and documentation submission timelines
Notes
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments at this health system may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file.
- CPI training will be provided onsite during orientation if not already held.
- Candidates must be prepared to complete all required documentation and health screenings prior to start date.
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in emergency nursing who are flexible, reliable, and meet all licensure and certification requirements.
