Job Opportunity: Scrub Tech

Location: Bangor, Maine
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work under the direct supervision of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective invasive surgical procedures.
  • Ensure the operating room environment is safe and equipment functions properly.
  • Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgery.
  • Understand the surgical procedure and anticipate surgeon’s needs.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Checking supplies and equipment for procedures
    • Scrubbing, gowning, and gloving self, surgeon, and assistants
    • Performing counts with circulator before and after surgery
    • Assisting in draping the sterile field
    • Passing instruments to the surgeon during procedures
    • Maintaining sterile technique standards
    • Assisting with terminal cleaning of the room
    • Cleaning and preparing instruments for sterilization
    • Prepping the surgical suite for the next patient
  • Assist in training new employees and students in the Scrub Tech role.
  • Not permitted to function as circulating nurse, first assistant, administer medications, or complete patient records.

Required Qualifications

  • Trade or Technical School Certificate or Diploma in Surgical Technology
  • Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • At least 1 year of previous experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Up to 16 hours of orientation (unpaid)
  • Employer may cancel up to 3 shifts during the 13-week contract
  • Local travelers living within 50 miles of the facility may receive a lower rate (not specified here)
