Job Opportunity: Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) - Travel/Contract

Location: Dowagiac, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours (1800-0600), Friday through Sunday
Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week
Weekend Requirement: Rotating Saturday and Sunday (12-hour shifts)
Holiday Requirement: Yes, must work holidays if scheduled in the lab
Floating Requirement: None
Locals Accepted: No, travelers must live at least 50 miles away from the facility

Required Qualifications

• Specialty: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• License: Must hold a valid Medical Laboratory Scientist license appropriate for Michigan
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only (as applicable by unit)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (refer to unit-specific requirements)

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Background check covering the last 7 years, including all states lived/worked in
• Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
• Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Physical exam required
• TB testing: Negative 2-step PPD or Q-gold within 1 year (T-spot not accepted)
• Immunizations or titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start and documentation on file by December 15
• COVID vaccine exemption allowed with medical or religious documentation

Additional Requirements

• Must submit a clear, passport-style photo for badge
• Completion of facility-specific modules prior to start (approx. 8-10 hours)
• Must comply with all facility-specific documents and agreements, including confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements

• Travelers must be prepared for rotating weekend shifts and holiday work
• No local candidates accepted; must reside at least 50 miles away
• Shift is primarily overnight weekend coverage
• Certification requirements may vary by unit; verify with unit-specific job description if assigned to a particular department
