Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Open to first-time travelers
- No call requirement
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holidays required
- Float to Medical/Surgical (MedSurg), ICU, and ED Waiting areas as needed
- Patient ratios typically 1:6, may flex higher; support staff available in rare occasions
- Must have Michigan RN License
- BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Certification required
- Strong post-surgical competencies required
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years MedSurg or PCU experience
- No prior travel experience required

Certifications Required
- Michigan RN License
- BLS (AHA)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, APEX, Bluecloud; must be updated annually)
- ACLS (AHA) - required for ED and Rapid Response Team (RRT) if applicable
- PALS (AHA) - required if working in Pediatrics or ED
- NRP (AAP or American Medical Learning Center) - required if working in Pediatrics
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for ED
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as applicable
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Proof of Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine
- Proof of Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or facility declination required
- 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1; proof or exemption must be submitted promptly
- Fit mask testing required on-site (Honeywell DC365N95HC) for applicable roles
- Background check including criminal history, SSN trace, sex offender, statewide searches, education verification, and motor vehicle record (MVR)
- Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (not typically for RN MedSurg)
- Central Registry Clearance required for pediatric and certain specialty placements
Documentation and Other Requirements
- Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
- I-9 and E-Verify documentation required
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy must be reviewed and acknowledged
- Vaccine exemption forms required if applicable (medical or confidential vaccine exemption)
- Dosimetry History Request Form required for Radiology specialties (not applicable here)
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be comfortable with patient ratios and floating to other units as needed
- Support staff available to assist in rare high-ratio situations
- Strong post-surgical nursing skills are essential
