Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Orthopedic Specialty

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Specialty: Orthopedic (Postoperative Orthopedic, Trauma with Fractures)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Unit: Orthopedic Department with 43 all-private rooms
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shifts (12 hours): 1:4-5
  • Night shifts (12 hours): 1:5-6
• Common Patient Types: Wide variety of medical-surgical, postoperative orthopedic cases, trauma cases with fractures
• Equipment: CPAP, heated high flow oxygen as needed
• Telemetry: House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; RNs do not read their own strips
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts for travel staff
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (day shift on Sat/Sun, night shift on Fri/Sat)
• Call/Standby: None required
• Floating: Travel RNs are first to float occasionally to other similar MedSurg floors
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed; professional adult appearance required; tattoos and piercings must be covered
• Orientation: Two unit/department-specific orientation sessions

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Experience: Minimum 2 years clinical experience preferred (postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical care)
• Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required for all panels

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours
• Charge Nurse present on each shift and takes assignments
• House Supervisor available 24/7
• Patient Care Techs (PCTs) support the unit with ratios of 1:7-8
