Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Intermediate Care Unit (IMU)
Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (IMU)
Beds: 30 (14 Private & 16 Semi-private)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Shift Scheduling: Self-scheduling allowed with 4 requested days off per month
- Weekend Requirement:
- Nights: 4 weekend night shifts per 4-week schedule
- Days: 4 weekend day shifts per 4-week schedule, but no true straight day shifts; minimum 3 night shifts per 4-week schedule required for day shift workers
- Holiday Work: Flexible; holidays usually covered by permanent staff
- Floating: Required to float as needed to Telemetry or MedSurg units (ratios up to 1:6 or 1:7 in MedSurg) and Pandemic Unit
Patient Care & Unit Information
- Patient Ratios: Goal 1:4; typically 1:5; occasionally 1:6
- Common Diagnoses: Chest pain, rule out MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post pacemaker, pre/post cardiac catheterization, groin checks, Tikosyn therapy patients
- Telemetry: Nihon Kohden monitors; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips (Tele Techs available)
- Drip Management: RNs must titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
- Ventilator Management: Respiratory Therapists manage all respiratory equipment (AirVo high flow, Respironics Bipap)
- IV Therapy: IV team performs all IV starts; PICC/Midline team available
- Support Staff:
- Charge nurses take full patient assignments on all shifts
- Clinical Assistants work alongside nurses
- 2-3 CNAs per shift (ratios 1:10-12)
- Respiratory Therapists and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Hospitalist in-house 24/7; Intensivist in ICU 24/7; Residents in-house 24/7
Orientation
- 2-day floor-specific orientation with preceptor support
- First day includes 4 hours HR and 8 hours unit orientation
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current RN license for West Virginia
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Certification
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification
- Must have an unexpired driver’s license
- Ability to titrate drips and interpret telemetry strips
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Intermediate Care Unit (IMU)
