Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVOR)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Days
  • On-Call:
    • Two 24-hour weekend calls per 6-week block
    • Additional weekday on-call shifts (2 calls per Monday-Friday week, either 7pm-11pm or 7pm-7am)
    • One day per week available to stay late for call coverage
  • Patient Ratio: Average 1:2
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Pending License: Accepted, but must have active license prior to start date
  • RTO Restrictions: Requests for time off greater than 7 days require approval
  • Special Requirements: Must be able to independently scrub cardiac surgery and circulate

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (CVOR)
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • License: Active Registered Nurse license for Connecticut required prior to start

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Sex offender search
  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (no attestations)
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure (if applicable to role)

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 85%)
  • Color blind testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for certain units, check specifics)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • TB questionnaire (updated annually)
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccination preferred for pediatric specialties, labor/delivery, postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Facility-Specific Training & Documentation

  • Multiple mandatory training modules and attestations including but not limited to:
    • Stroke Education (except pediatric and NICU)
    • CLABSI Prevention
    • Preventing Pressure Injury
    • Language Services
    • CAUTI Education
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment
    • Pyxis ES MedStation
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • AME Blood Administration (annual update required)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (for RNs except Home Health)
    • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
    • eCart Training Module (not required for pediatric, periop/OR, outpatient, case managers, home health)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)
  • EPIC testing or training required for RNs with EPIC experience (optional but highly encouraged)

  • Scrub color provided
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Parking cost: $125/month
  • Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Short Term Acute Care with 1567 staffed beds

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs who are comfortable with cardiac surgery scrub and circulation, able to manage on-call responsibilities, and meet comprehensive compliance and health requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome.
