Job Opportunity: RN Medical Center (Surgical Room)

Position Details

• Discipline / Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Surgical Room
• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Location: Milwaukee, WI (Level III Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Magnet Designation, Primary Stroke Center)

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in the specialty.
• Not recommended for first-time travel nurses; further approval/evaluation required for first-time travelers.
• Experience with scrubbing as an RN circulator is recommended.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Required Certifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Required Skills and Procedures

• Neuro/ENT surgeries including:

  • Spine surgeries: Laminectomies, ALIFs, Fusions, Discectomies
  • Cranial surgeries: Tumors, AVMs/Aneurysms (not required), VP shunts, Subdural, EVDs (no setup required)
  • ENT surgeries: Neck dissections with flaps, Sinus surgery (Stealth Navigation), Basic ENT (Tonsils), Tympanoplasty (Cochlear not required)
• Navigation systems experience:

  • Medtronic (Cranial & Spine)
  • Medtronic Stealth (ENT)
  • Stryker & Synaptive Navigation (Cranial)
• Orthopedic surgeries:

  • Fractures, Anterior hips, Total joints, Ortho spine, Hand/Podiatry
• Equipment familiarity:

  • Hanna Table
• General surgeries:

  • Breasts/Plastics, Vascular, Laparoscopic, General Oncology, Genitourinary (GU), Gynecology (GYN), Robots (XI)
• Note: Agency nurses will not be trained on Robots unless they have a strong background and commit to more than one contract.

Work Environment & Support

• Patient ratio: 1:1
• Support from Charge Nurse, Leads, Supervisors, and Manager
• Charting systems: EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis
• Floating: Cross-trained to General Main OR specialty and Urology center; no floating to other hospitals/sites
• Orientation: 1 to 1.5 weeks depending on team and shift

Scheduling

• Day shifts with variable start times between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM
• PM shifts depend on position (specified in hiring requisition)
• No weekend rotation required
• Holiday weeks: Option to work 4 (10-hour) shifts or take holiday unpaid

On Call

• 30-minute response time
• 8-week call schedule (subject to change)
• Call slots vary by shift and specialty (General/Neuro/Ortho)

• Surgical scrubs provided; scrub caps allowed but must be covered by surgical bouffant

• Food options on campus include Starbucks and cafeteria
• No call rooms available

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with surgical scrubbing experience, comfortable with a variety of specialty surgeries, and able to commit to a 13-week contract in a Level III Trauma Center environment.
