Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Circulator role with experience in multiple specialties including Orthopedics (Trauma, Joints, Sports Medicine, Shoulders) and Robotic Surgery (DaVinci).
  • Weekday shifts preferred: 12-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM.
  • Call required: Maximum 10 calls per contract, mostly fewer; call hours after 7:00 PM to 6:30 AM and weekends.
  • Weekend shifts: Call only, 24-hour coverage on Saturday or Sunday.
  • Possible float requirement to 2nd floor Outpatient ORs.
  • Must have Level 1 experience.
  • Preferred experience: Conscious sedation and scrub skills.
  • Required skill: Circulate.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Orthopedics, including Orthopedic Trauma.
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
  • Experience with Robotic Surgery (DaVinci).
  • Circulate skill required.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio required.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA approved.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - preferred.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (except certain excluded units).

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if applicable.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific Ohio codes. New fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year.
  • Education accreditation confirmation required for nursing degree from accredited programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring required.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene). New travelers cannot start with pending drug screen.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually.
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles) - 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Mumps - 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Rubella - 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer unless medically exempt.
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31). Decliners must wear a mask.
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership.
  • Employment application required including education verification.
  • Skills checklist required.
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.

Shift Details

  • Weekday 12-hour shifts preferred (Mon-Fri).
  • Call shifts after hours and weekends.
  • Possible float to outpatient ORs.

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong circulating skills, EPIC experience, and flexibility for call and float assignments. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
