Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN)

Location: Mullins, South Carolina
Contract Length: 6 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN)
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM, Days)
• Patient Ratios: 1:6-7
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Rotation: Yes
• On-call: No
• Floating: Yes, within scope to like units/sister facilities

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical (MedSurg) nursing experience within the last year
• Experience in MedSurg and Telemetry nursing
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

• Facility has 28 inpatient staffed beds
• Charting system: Epic
• Scrub color: Royal Blue
• Free parking available
• Local radius: 60 miles (locals not accepted)
• Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Block scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
• Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, international searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education Verification:

  • Diploma or transcripts preferred as placeholder if verification pending
• Licensure Verification:

  • Primary source verification required (NURSYS for RN)
  • SC RN license processing times vary; walk-through/temp license option available if no background issues
• Health Requirements:

  • Initial physical exam, updated annually
  • Immunizations and titers: Tdap (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start (T-spot or Q-Gold accepted)
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID vaccines not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
• References & Work History:

  • Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Performance evaluation dated within 12 months required
  • Verification of last 3 clinical employers required unless waived by facility
• Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable
• Facility Specific:

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location)
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge
  • Signed assignment acknowledgment, confidentiality agreements, code of conduct, and other HR documents prior to start

Additional Notes

• Radiation badge not required for MedSurg RN
• Travelers must be prepared to float within scope as needed
• Facility may accommodate block scheduling with prior approval
• Travelers should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season (June-November)

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 1 year of MedSurg experience, who hold a valid SC or Compact RN license, and are comfortable with a 6-week travel assignment with day shifts and weekend rotation. Prior travel experience is not required.
