Job Opportunity: Monitor Tech - Telemetry

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Central Monitoring Unit (CMU)
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 336 patients monitored daily
  • Staffing: 65 total staff
    • Day Shift: 12 telemetry-competent staff
    • Night Shift: 12 telemetry-competent staff
  • Patient Ratio: 40+ patients per monitor tech
  • Equipment: GE Carescape system
  • EMR: Not applicable

Job Description

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms for a high volume of patients across multiple hospitals remotely
  • Analyze and interpret heart rhythms
  • Build end-of-shift reports within the GE Carescape system
  • Add and discharge patients from the GE Carescape system
  • Communicate with floor staff via desktop phone and iPhone application
  • Maintain a running call log
  • Multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Cross-training provided on GE Carescape system and Cerner Patient Observer as Virtual Sitter Attendant

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts: 06:45–19:15 and 18:45–07:15
  • Unit huddles at 06:53 and 18:53
  • 6 weekend shifts per 6 weeks
  • 2 on-call shifts per 6 weeks
  • Holiday shifts required

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Monitor Technician
  • Monitor Technician experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Telemetry competent

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNA background
  • Cardiac nursing background
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • ECG Board Certification
  • Previous experience with GE monitoring systems

Additional Information

  • No required certifications for this role
  • Dress code: Business casual or any color scrubs, no denim
  • The unit is located about 8 miles from the main hospital campus; no cafeteria on site, staff must bring food or order out
  • Position involves prolonged sitting with sit-to-stand desk options available

This role is ideal for experienced telemetry monitor techs who thrive in a high-volume, remote cardiac monitoring environment and have prior travel experience.
