Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Hinesville, Georgia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced ER RN to work in a busy emergency department with approximately 18 beds including 3 trauma bays. The facility is a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) working toward level IV designation, not a STEMI or stroke receiving center.
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required for Georgia
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience (higher requirement if any discrepancy)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
Prior Travel Experience
- Travel experience preferred but not required
Job Details & Responsibilities
- Work exclusively in the ER; no floating to Med-Surg
- Manage ER holds (no separate holding area; holds are intermixed in ER)
- May work triage depending on experience
- Handle a variety of patients including abdominal pain, back pain, lacerations, influenza, COVID, shortness of breath, chest pain, stroke/CVA with TPA, psychiatric patients, motor vehicle accidents, trauma stabilization, DKA, sickle cell, hypertension, and STEMI transfers
- Administer and manage all common ER/critical care drips
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as vents, BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow devices
- Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips independently
- Draw labs alongside techs
- Use EMR system: T-system
Work Environment
- Average patient volume: ~90 patients/day, up to 140 during peak season
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: Generally 1:4-5 depending on acuity
- Shift length: 12-hour shifts (7a, 12p, 3p, 7p)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling allowed but requires manager approval; block scheduling available
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday coverage: Rotated with permanent staff
- No call or standby requirements
- Charge nurse present on every shift and takes patient assignments
- Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) with general tech duties
- In-house respiratory therapists available 24/7
- Radiology available 24/7 with hospital transport for imaging
- Phlebotomy performed by both RNs and techs
- Orientation: 3 shifts specific to unit
Additional Notes
- Facility uses ultrasound and vein finder in ER and Med-Surg
- Pharmacy available onsite until 5 PM; resource nurse assists with medication mixing
- Masking policy: Not required if vaccinated; mask and shield required if unvaccinated
- Emphasis on customer service and patient satisfaction
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs with matching scrub jacket or white jacket
This position is ideal for ER nurses comfortable with a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and proficient in IVs, drips, and critical care skills. Experience in smaller community hospitals with higher patient volumes is preferred over typical CAH experience.
