Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Unit & Patient Care Information
- Unit: Medical Oncology with progressive care beds; includes some pediatric patients (rare, pediatric experience not required)
- Unit Type: 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit, with 24+ beds dedicated to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care
- Patient Diagnoses: Solid Tumor, Orthopedic Oncology, Thoracic Oncology
- Patient Acuity: High acuity PCU patients with some med-surg telemetry
- Staffing Ratios:
- Med Surg Telemetry: 1:4-5
- PCU: 1:3
- Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Schedule & Orientation
- Self-scheduling requests accepted; final schedule balanced by department
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday to Friday, dayshift orientation
- Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Use of rapid response teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Accessing Ports
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- Peripheral line care and management
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- Heparin protocols
Required Skills
- High acuity PCU patient care experience
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias and ABGs
- Use of rapid response teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Accessing Ports and Central line care/management
- Blood product administration
- Peripheral line and PICC line management
- Starting IVs and managing heparin protocols
- Managing cardiac drips (no titration) and titrating cardiac drips
- PCA pump management
- Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Nasal cannula and tracheostomy management

Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (including FBI/BCI fingerprinting) required prior to start
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
- Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required with specific code (3701.881) and must be current within 1 year of start
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Annual completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- References: 2 professional references required, including at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership
