Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) unit on a travel contract basis.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent clinical experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry.
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for MS/Tele.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required for MS/Tele.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Not required for MS/Tele.
  • Other Certifications:
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required only for ER, not MS/Tele.
    • CNOR, CHEMO, NRP not required for this specialty.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and updated annually.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually. Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09. Fingerprinting must be completed prior to start; candidates may start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed.
  • NURSYS primary source verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually. PAPRs not provided for facial hair failure unless approved exemption.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest x-ray if past positive.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if titers negative/equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if titers negative/equivocal.
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions must be approved).
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
  • Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required for all bedside RNs except OR RNs. Passing scores: 90% for medication, 80% for ECG. Retakes allowed with remediation.
  • SafeMedicate prep materials provided for exam preparation.

Documentation and History

  • Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar area to assignment.
  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director). Co-worker references not accepted.
  • Skills checklist required annually.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with gaps in employment greater than 30-40 days may need to update physical and eye exams.
  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times on assignment.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed both through agency and facility processes.
  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and compliance requirements prior to start.
