Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Pre-Op experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience with Plastic Surgery, Urology, and OB/GYN surgeries
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients
  • Experience monitoring patients with nerve blocks, chest tube insertions, central lines, intubation, and arterial lines (A-lines)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or equivalent knowledge

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for ER, preferred for trauma experience
  • Other certifications as applicable (e.g., NRP, CHEMO, ENPC, EFM) depending on assignment specifics

Required Licenses

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas
  • NURSYS Verification required within 30 days of start

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 10-year Criminal Background Check required within 30 days of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • State-specific background checks for Texas (DPS Criminal History, Employee Misconduct Registry, Employability Status Check) required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma required for certain specialties (e.g., Cath Lab, CVOR, L&D RN)
  • Drug screening required (negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; additional onsite drug screen during orientation)
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start (must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract)
  • Immunizations and health documents required within 72 hours of signing contract:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • Rubeola (Measles) - positive titer or 2 vaccines
    • Mumps - positive titer or 2 vaccines
    • Rubella - positive titer or 2 vaccines
    • Hepatitis B - positive titer or series (3 doses)
    • Varicella - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history of chickenpox
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
    • Flu vaccination or agency declination (seasonal requirement Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • N95 Fit Test required within 1 year of start (facility will not accept PAPR)

Additional Requirements

  • Candidate must review and sign confidentiality, security agreements, drug screening consent, TB questionnaire, and compliance checklists prior to start
  • Skills checklist and competency exams required and must be updated annually or within 1 year of start
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
  • Age-specific competency exam required within 1 year of start
  • References: 2 references required within 3 years of start
  • Employment application or resume required
