Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (ORTHO) - Travel/Contract

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical ORTHO)
• Shift: Nights
• Start Date: ASAP
• Schedule: 48 or 36 hours per week
• Nursing Ratio: Team nursing ratios (discuss during interview)
• On-Call: As needed
• Weekend Requirement: As needed (no weekend block schedule, but weekend block may be considered)
• Locals Accepted: No (strict 100-mile radius rule)
• First-Timers: Not accepted (prior travel experience required)

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Tennessee
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Orthopedics experience
• Trauma experience, including working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only, required for all candidates
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for Medical Surgical/Tele units and OR travelers at specified locations
• NIH Stroke Certification: Required for all RNs (except at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital)
• Other Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred but not required
  • PALS, NRP, EFM, and others not required for this position

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet job demands
• Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending compliance allowed)
• Immunizations:

  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
  • TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Fit test for 3M N-95 mask within 1 year (if applicable)

Background & Documentation

• Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
• Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search (for TN facilities)
• Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
• Two recent professional references required
• Skills checklist and internal evaluation (if employed with agency for 1+ year)

Additional Notes

• Strict documentation submission rules, including photo badge with specific guidelines
• No accommodation for pending licenses or late requests for time off (RTO)
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs, no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
• Large Level I Trauma Center environment with short-term acute care

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurses with orthopedic and trauma experience who have prior travel contract experience and are ready to work nights in a high-acuity, large hospital setting.
