Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (IMC) - Travel/Contract

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Role: RN providing care for admitted patients boarding in the Emergency Department (ED) awaiting inpatient bed placement.
  • Unit: Intermediate Care (IMC) / ED Boarder
  • Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Required Qualifications

  • License: Valid District of Columbia RN license required. Pending DC license accepted at time of submission but must have license in hand prior to start.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
  • Prior Travel Experience: Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment.
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • Must successfully pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:
      • Minimum overall score of 80%
      • 100% score on lethal rhythms section

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in Cerner electronic health record system and Pyxis medication system
  • Experience with MS/Telemetry and Telemetry monitoring
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management and renal failure care
  • IV therapy/phlebotomy and starting IVs
  • Heparin protocols, PCA, nasal cannula, and isolation precautions
  • Ability to float to units of similar or lower acuity
  • COVID-19: Must be willing and able to accept assignments including COVID-19 patients

Additional Requirements

  • Must provide proof of pending DC RN license status at submission
  • Criminal background check within 90 days, including multiple state and federal checks
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Immunizations and health documentation including:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) documentation or titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or series or signed declination
    • Varicella documentation or titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • EKG competency exam must be current (within 1 year) and updated annually
  • Must complete facility-specific orientation modules prior to start

Work Environment

  • Unit visits approximately 140 patients per day
  • 40 rooms in the unit
  • Scrubs: Any color allowed
  • Parking available (cost applies)
