Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CCU

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Unit: Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, rotating day and night shifts every 2 to 4 weeks (night shift preference may reduce rotations)
  • Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Population: Medical cardiology and advanced heart failure patients requiring life-supporting devices and medications, including cardiogenic shock, transplant candidates, post-cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, and post-interventional cardiology procedures
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Float Requirement: Must float to other ICU or Intermediate Care units within level of acuity

Required Skills

  • Obtain 12 lead EKG
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care/management
  • Continuous IV sedation
  • Emergency medication administration
  • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and ventilator management
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions (use of PPE)
  • Phlebotomy

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in District of Columbia
  • Minimum 2 years of CCU - Coronary Care experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Continuous IV sedation
  • Emergency medication administration
  • Titration of cardiac drips
  • Titration of vasoactive drips
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Ventilator management

Orientation & Training

  • Flexible orientation hours to meet associate needs
  • Device certifications offered throughout the contract

Additional Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification of highest degree required by position
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Immunizations and health documentation including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
    • Documentation of MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B status
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must score 80% or higher)
  • Annual safety manual acknowledgement
  • Photo for badge with specific requirements

References & Work History

  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
  • Verification of at least 2 years of employment in the past 7 years, including at least one prior travel assignment or one month of per diem assignment

  • Must be willing to float to other units as needed
  • Scrubs not provided; color: Ceil Blue
