Charge Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg (Nights)
Location: Claremont, New Hampshire

Job Summary
The Charge Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse who demonstrates strong leadership skills, clinical expertise, and compassion for patients and teammates. This role involves providing patient care while overseeing unit operations throughout the assigned shift. The Charge Nurse acts as a role model for professional nursing behaviors, clinical competencies, and critical thinking. Responsibilities include mentoring and precepting new nurses to support their successful transition from novice to expert.
Key Responsibilities
- Function as a clinical/staff RN with occasional small patient assignments (1-3 patients).
- Oversee LPN, RN, and LNA practice and delegate care appropriately.
- Coordinate employee breaks and create nursing assignments, adjusting for acuity and patient flow.
- Assist nursing staff with patient care, monitor lab/diagnostic results, follow up on referrals, and consult with departments such as pharmacy, lab, and radiology.
- Address employee performance concerns and manage in-the-moment conflicts.
- Monitor timely and accurate documentation/charting.
- Communicate with nursing team members and management to coordinate daily unit activities (discharges, admissions, transfers).
- Act as house supervisor/main resource during off shifts (nights, weekends, holidays), managing bed availability and communicating with administrators as needed.
- Coordinate with other area hospitals regarding bed availability to facilitate patient transfers.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire at time of submission.
- BLS Certification (must be current and uploaded; facility will not pend certifications).
- 3-5 years of relevant clinical nursing experience.
- Charge RN experience is highly preferred.
- Supervisory reference from within the past two years of employment.
