Job Opportunity: Dietitian

Location: Toledo, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: First shift, 8.5 hours/day (7:30 am to 4 pm or 8 am to 4:30 pm)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, no weekends, no on-call, no holidays

Job Description

• Provide nutritional assessments and consultations for high-risk patients, including those on enteral and parenteral nutrition.
• Review and analyze patient data such as drug-food interactions, lab values, diet orders, anthropometrics, appetite, physical assessment, nutrition history, medications, and medical history.
• Calculate calorie, protein, and fluid needs based on patient-specific factors.
• Develop care plans and nutrition goals; coordinate and communicate with interdisciplinary team members.
• Educate in-patients and out-patients on therapeutic diets considering learning, age-specific, cultural, religious, and economic factors.
• Provide follow-up care and communicate with outside agencies as needed.
• Deliver services to end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients receiving outpatient dialysis, including evaluation, care planning, and follow-up.
• Develop therapeutic diets and menus; serve as a resource for Food & Nutrition Services staff.
• Act as a preceptor/mentor for students and staff; participate in hospital committees and educational activities.
• Order or modify Medical Nutrition Therapy orders within scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) license in Ohio.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as an RDN, preferably within the last year.
• Bachelor's degree in dietetics or food and nutrition or completion of a dietetic internship.
• Experience in an Acute Care setting.

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to start quickly and work independently ("hit the ground running").
• Locals and first-time travel dietitians are accepted.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background check within the past year, including multi-level screenings.
• Government-issued photo ID required during work hours.
• Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Immunizations and health documents including:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required (no declinations accepted)
• Fit mask test within 12 months of start (except lab workers), updated annually.
• Annual TB questionnaire.
• Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists updated annually.
• Verification of last 3 years of employment and 2 professional references within 2 years.

Work Environment

• Hospital setting with no weekend, holiday, or on-call responsibilities.
• First shift schedule with consistent hours.
