Location: Nampa, Idaho
Assignment Length: 13 weeks (travel assignment)
Shift: 12-hour shifts (7a-7p and 7p-7a), weekends as needed
Unit: LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
Job Description
Seeking an experienced RN with a focus on Women's Services including Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum, and OR Circulation/Triage for a 13-week travel contract. Nurses will work in a 14-bed LDRP unit where patients stay in the same room throughout their care. The unit includes 2 OR suites for C-sections, 4 triage beds, and follows AWHONN staffing standards.
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Approximately 90 births per month (1200 per year)
- Patient types include 32 weeks gestation and greater, hypertensive patients on magnesium, blood alcohol cases, TOLACs, gestational diabetes, antepartum patients
- Does not accept placenta previa or placenta accreta cases
- Diverse patient population with many home birth midwife referrals requiring medical intervention and pain control
- Neonatal ICU embedded within 7 of the LDRP rooms
Staffing & Support
- Charge RNs do not take patient assignments
- Resource RN and triage RN roles available; triage fills quickly
- 1 Certified Surgical Tech (CST) and 1 Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) per shift (CNA coverage may vary)
- OB hospitalist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner available 24/7
- Anesthesia available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapist available for troubleshooting
- No tele/monitor techs; RNs rarely need to read their own strips
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in Labor & Delivery; must have experience with L&D, Postpartum, and OR Circulation/Triage
- Mother-baby experience preferred (at least 1 year)
- Must be able to attend deliveries and provide 1 hour of newborn care
- Experience with magnesium sulfate management required
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Ability to titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium, and occasionally Insulin
- Certifications required: NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), ACLS, BLS, STABLE certification
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome
Orientation & Scheduling
- 4 shifts of unit-specific orientation covering C-section, labor, and postpartum care
- Compliance and EPIC Curio assignments must be completed before starting
- Scheduling is primarily 7a-7p and 7p-7a shifts; travelers fill in schedule gaps initially, then may request preferences
- No guaranteed block scheduling; no more than 6 shifts in a row allowed
- No minimum weekend or holiday requirements for travelers; holiday work may be required based on unit needs
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required to other regional sites within primary skill set (L&D, Postpartum, Antepartum) or as a sitter
Additional Information
- Hospital-issued scrubs required; must change in and out at start/end of shift
- No fingernail polish, acrylic, or gel nails allowed due to NICU proximity
- Travel duos must have two vehicles due to floating between sites
- Radius restriction: candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to qualify for this travel assignment
