NICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Contract Position

Required Experience

• Minimum 3 years of NICU nursing experience
• Preferably with Level III NICU experience

Patient Population

• Neonates 32 weeks and older
• Patients without ventilator support longer than 24 hours
• Patients requiring IV antibiotics, jaundice care, NAS (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome) care
• Feeder and growers, NAS babies

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Skills and Responsibilities

• Experience with lines and all listed patient types
• Ventilator experience
• NAS care including eat, sleep, console treatment, morphine administration and weaning
• Stabilize and prepare babies for transport
• Assist with catching babies during C-sections
• Attend complicated deliveries (e.g., twins, VBAC)

Work Environment and Support

• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2-3 patients (day and night shifts)
• CNA support shared with Labor & Delivery
• Charge nurse role shared with LDRP unit, no assigned charge nurse
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
• Neonatologist on call 24/7
• Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage on some days, working toward 24/7 coverage
• Centralized telemetry monitoring with tele tech support
• Floating to postpartum area as needed

Orientation and Scheduling

• Orientation: At least 1 shift to learn unit flow
• Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
• Time off: Up to 7 days can be approved by default
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday work varies based on unit needs

Technology and Equipment

• Charting system: Epic
• Equipment: Alaris infusion pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing system
