Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Tele

Location: Bel Air, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Start Date: April 6, 2026


Job Description

  • Work on a combined Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit requiring higher acuity and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience.
  • Average daily census: 30 patients
  • Unit beds: 22 rooms / 30 beds
  • Patient population: Adult and Geriatrics
  • Patient diagnoses include a variety of complex conditions such as CHF, ECOPD, NSTEMI, new onset AFib, arrhythmias, sepsis, renal failure/AKI, and others.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Maryland
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required and must be updated annually)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred but not mandatory

Patient Care and Unit Details

  • Combined unit with higher acuity patients requiring telemetry and progressive care skills.
  • Nurses will care for patients with complex cardiac and medical conditions.

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • I-9 or attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and various federal/state screenings
  • Drug screening (9 or 10 panel, negative result required within 30-45 days prior to start)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (proof of immunity or vaccination required)
  • TB testing (negative QGOLD/TSPOT or 2-step PPD within 1 year)
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption for the 2025-26 season
  • COVID vaccination not required for this location but documentation may be collected for tracking

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score 80% or higher)
  • Age-specific competency exam (score 80% or higher)
  • MS/Telemetry unit-specific competency exam

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references within 1 year of start (one must be a supervisor or charge nurse)
  • Employment history verification for the past 5 years
  • Completion of facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, dress code review, and unit-specific job description prior to start
  • Facility orientation and training including crisis prevention and stroke certification updates

Patient Population

  • Adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac and medical conditions requiring telemetry monitoring and progressive care nursing skills.

Summary

This is a night shift travel Registered Nurse position on a combined Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit in Maryland. The role requires at least 2 years of RN experience, with preference for candidates who have strong telemetry and progressive care experience. Prior travel experience is not required. The position involves caring for adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac and medical diagnoses. Required certifications include Maryland RN license, BLS, CPI, and NIH Stroke Certification, with ACLS preferred. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks with 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week.
