Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Registered Nurse for Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Neuro Stepdown
  • Targeted Start Date: April 6 (urgent need)
  • Floating: May float to Med/Surg, Neuro, Stepdown, PCU units
  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
  • Block Scheduling: Not available
  • On-Call: No
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Local Candidates: Accepted (within 75 miles)
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue
  • Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Flu vaccine (mandatory)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap every 10 years
    • Polio vaccine or attestation
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen (including THC) within 30 days of start
  • Background checks including SSN trace, education verification, and various federal/state screenings within 90 days of start
  • Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as required
  • Completion of required online modules prior to orientation
  • Setup of a facility-specific guest account prior to clearance

Notes

  • Candidates must comply with all health and safety requirements; no vaccine exemptions allowed.
  • Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived.
  • Orientation and training include unit-specific competency exams and crisis prevention training.

This role is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of recent experience, comfortable working in PCU/Neuro stepdown or similar acute care settings, and who meet the licensure and certification requirements. First-time travel nurses and local candidates are welcome.
