Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
- Patient Ratios: 1:5
- Experience Required: 2 years (higher end of 1 to 2 years range)
- First-time travelers accepted
- Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Float Pool Position: No home unit assignment; float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
- On-call: Not required
- Local candidates not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending license not accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
- Special Requirements: Virtual nursing, 12 lead EKG, AirVo, Voalte, Omnicell systems
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Preferred Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Required Skills & Experience
- Work settings: Med/Surg Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring
- Cardiovascular care: Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization
- Experience with sepsis, wound care, alcohol withdrawal (ETOH), suicidal ideation (SI), renal failure, atrial fibrillation (AFIB), gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), stroke, COVID-19
- Ability to float within scope across multiple units
Preferred Skills
- Cardiovascular: Sheath removal
- Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
- IV therapy/phlebotomy: Accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience managing dysrhythmias, sepsis, suicidal ideation (SI), and COVID-19
- Virtual nursing experience
Additional Information
- Must be willing and able to float to multiple units and campuses as needed
- No block scheduling accommodations
- No on-call requirement
- Must comply with all facility-specific training modules and policies
- No local candidates accepted; must reside at least 75 miles away from the facility
