Registered Nurse - IMC (Travel/Contract)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
This Registered Nurse position involves caring for admitted patients boarding in the Emergency Department (ED) awaiting inpatient bed placement. The nurse will work night shifts (3x12 hours) and float within units of equivalent or lower acuity. Weekend work is required every other weekend.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in District of Columbia
- Minimum 2 years of Intermediate Care experience, including experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Proficient in IV therapy including IV insulin protocols, titration of insulin drips, and heparin protocols
- Experience with PCA (patient-controlled analgesia)
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record system
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in Cerner electronic health record system and Pyxis medication system.
- Experience with MS/Telemetry, Telemetry monitoring, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias.
- Skilled in IV therapy including starting IVs, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, and heparin protocols.
- Feeding tube care and management.
- Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care.
- PCA (patient-controlled analgesia), nasal cannula use, and isolation precautions.
- Ability and willingness to care for COVID-19 patients.
Work Environment and Additional Requirements
- Patient ratio approximately 1:4-5.
- Unit includes about 40 rooms with roughly 140 patient visits per day.
- Required to float to units of similar or lower acuity.
- Weekend shifts every other weekend required.
- Scrubs of any color allowed.
- Parking available (cost applies).
References and Documentation
- Two positive supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
- Skills checklist and work history verification required prior to start and updated annually.
This position requires a highly skilled and experienced RN with prior travel experience, strong telemetry and critical care skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced ED boarding environment.
