Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Oncology
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:15 AM - 6:45 PM)
  • Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Open to discussion with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in chemotherapy administration including:
    • Continuous infusion of chemotherapy
    • IV push administration of chemotherapy
    • Oral administration of chemotherapy
    • Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
    • Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
  • Experience in IV therapy/infusion skills including:
    • Accessing ports and central lines (PICC, implanted lines)
    • Care and management of ports
    • Administration of coagulation factors, antivirals, blood and blood products
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required (AHA or RQI acceptable)
  • Physical exam within one year of start, including labs and immunizations as required
  • Drug screening and background checks as per state and facility requirements

  • No on-call required
  • Scrub color: Any solid color
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Parking permit required (no cost)
  • Facility is an acute care hospital, Level I trauma center, and Magnet designated

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches
  • Verification of education and licensure (NURSYS verification required)
  • Competency exams and skills checklists required for clinical candidates
  • Immunizations and health screenings including TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry fingerprinting required if no active IL license
  • Drug screen (9-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Badge photo required prior to start

Notes

  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Ideally no more than 5 days of requested time off during assignment
  • Client may cancel shifts up to a certain limit without pay obligation
