Description

Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (1845-0715)
Unit: 25-bed Medical Surgical unit with an average daily census of 23 patients
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Floating: Yes, will float within scope to other Medical Surgical units
Block Scheduling: Will try to accommodate but not guaranteed
Local Candidates: Accepted, no radius restrictions


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with Med Surg experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Telemetry remote monitoring experience
  • Blood product administration experience
  • Central line blood draw experience
  • PICC line management experience
  • Starting IVs experience
  • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) experience
  • CPAP/BiPAP experience
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) experience
  • Portable oxygen tank experience
  • Experience with Cerner electronic medical record system

Clinical Skills & Experience Required

  • Work Setting Experience: Medical/Surgical and Telemetry
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Telemetry remote monitoring, use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Genitourinary/Renal Care: Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
  • Medication Skills: Heparin administration
  • Respiratory Care: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, portable oxygen tank
  • Professional Knowledge: Isolation precautions, wound care including Wound Vac
  • Electronic Medical Record: Experience with Cerner required

Additional Information

  • Scrub Color: Any solid color scrubs
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Permit required, no cost
  • Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
  • Floating: Will float to other Medical Surgical units as needed

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid US Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusion lists
  • Education verification (degree or transcript)
  • Illinois-specific state searches and registry checks as required
  • Physical exam within one year of start, including labs and clearance to perform job functions
  • Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
  • Photo for badge within one week of contract signing
  • Code of conduct acknowledgment and other facility-specific documents
