Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position

Location: California City, California
Employment Type: Travel Health Services


Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care including executing provider orders, administering medications, assisting in patient examinations and treatments, and applying nursing and supervisory techniques in a correctional healthcare setting. Responsibilities include monitoring inpatient hospitalizations, supervising licensed and non-licensed nursing staff, maintaining medical record confidentiality, auditing pharmacy use, providing health counseling and education, and assisting with accreditation processes and legal documentation as required.


Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 1 year of correctional nursing experience, with correctional experience within the last year

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute licensed provider’s orders and administer medications.
  • Assist in examinations and treatment of patients.
  • Supervise licensed vocational/practical nurses and non-licensed medical staff.
  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and coordinate early releases when appropriate.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records.
  • Audit pharmacy use and comply with controlled substance laws.
  • Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups.
  • Prepare and maintain medical and operational records and reports.
  • Participate in accreditation processes and respond to legal matters as needed.
  • Ensure safety and proper handling of medical supplies to prevent contraband.
