Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
• Shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1900-0730)
• Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Float within skillset required
• Must have triage experience
• Must have worked in an ED setting with at least 45,600 visits per year (approx. 125 visits/day) within the past 8 months

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working in an ED setting with at least 45,600 visits per year (approximately 125 visits per day) within the past 8 months
• Prior travel nursing experience
• Certifications:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by AHA or ARC
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Triage experience required
• Experience with Cerner Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system

Additional Requirements

• Physical exam annually confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required
• Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Background check within 90 days including criminal, education verification, and other standard screenings
• Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
• Valid driver's license if driving is an essential job function

Competency & Testing Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score) within 3 years of start
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (Relias Dysrhythmia Basics A) within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Color blindness testing (online or in-person)
• Other certifications as required by unit description (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Work Environment & Expectations

• High-volume emergency department setting
• Ability to work nights and holidays on a rotating basis
• Flexibility to float within the emergency department skillset

This position is ideal for experienced ED Registered Nurses with prior travel experience seeking a 13-week travel contract in Maryland.
