Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (1845-0715)
  • Average Daily Census: 22 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: May float to other units within scope as needed
  • Schedule Flexibility: Block schedule requests can be discussed with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • On-Call: Not required

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years as a Registered Nurse in Medical Surgical
  • First-Timers: Not accepted (must have prior experience)
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required based on unit
  • License: Must have an active Illinois RN license in hand to apply

  • Medical/Surgical Experience: Required
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
    • Telemetry (remote monitoring)
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Gastrointestinal Care:
    • Colostomy care
    • Feeding tube care and management
  • Genitourinary/Renal Care:
    • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
    • Renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line blood draws
    • Peripheral line care/management
    • PICC line management
    • Starting IVs
  • Medication Administration:
    • Heparin
    • Insulin
    • PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia)
  • Neurological/Psychiatric Care:
    • Spinal cord injuries
  • Orthopedic Trauma: Experience required
  • Surgical Drains: Experience required
  • Respiratory Care:
    • CPAP/BiPAP
    • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
    • Nasal cannula
    • Non-invasive airway management
    • Oral suctioning
    • Oxygen face masks
    • Portable oxygen tank
    • Pre/Post thoracic surgery care
    • Tracheostomy management
  • Professional Knowledge:
    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care and wound vac management

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Orthopedic Trauma experience
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Experience in blood product administration
  • Experience with central line blood draws
  • Experience managing PICC lines
  • Experience starting IVs
  • Experience with CPAP/BiPAP
  • Experience with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Experience in non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with oral suctioning
  • Experience in tracheostomy management

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
    • Immunizations or titers for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
  • References: Two professional references required
  • Photo for Badge: Required within one week of signing contract
  • Fingerprinting: Must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start (if no IL license)

  • Trauma Level: Level I trauma center
  • Magnet Status: Magnet designated hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 562
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Permit required, no cost

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
  • Candidates should ideally have no more than 5 days of return-to-office restrictions.
  • The client may cancel up to 36 hours of shifts per 13-week assignment without pay obligation.
