Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN ensures compliance with nursing standards and professional development according to the New York State Nurse Practice Act and nursing ethical standards. The role promotes a caring and healing environment focused on patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients, serving as primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
• Administer medications safely with knowledge of pharmacology.
• Participate in resource utilization including staffing, time management, and supplies.
• Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support Nursing Shared Governance Model through unit council participation and improvement initiatives.
• Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
• Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year.
• At least 2 years of experience in labor and delivery, including experience with high-risk obstetrics and performing vaginal exams.
• Experience working with high-risk patients.
• Experience in the Operating Room (OR).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Current Fetal Monitoring (FM) certification.
