Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Telemetry

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Assignment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
Holiday Requirement: Work included in holiday rotation with permanent staff
Hours: Prefer 48 hours/week; minimum guarantee of 36 hours/week
Float: May float between 7 different Telemetry units; possible float to Critical Care only if experienced

Unit Details

• Unit size: 29 beds (Telemetry/Stepdown)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6 depending on patient acuity
• Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) available (2 "Pairs Units")
• Common patient diagnoses: CHF, cardiac cath/post PCI, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, oncology (chemo administered by oncology RNs), respiratory failure, post-op lung surgeries, pacemakers, chest tubes
• Telemetry monitors: Phillips; RNs must read and interpret strips
• Respiratory equipment: CPAP & BiPAP managed by RTs; RNs not expected to manage vents or trachs
• Charge nurse available 24/7 (day shift charge nurse does not take patients; night shift charge nurse does)
• CNA ratio: Approximately 1 CNA per 12 patients

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license for the state of West Virginia
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Ability to titrate drips including cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Heparin, Nitro (up to 50 mcg), Lasix, Ativan, and others
• Experience with telemetry patients and cardiac drip titration required
• Must be able to work within scope of practice

• Dress code: Royal blue scrubs for RNs
