Respiratory Therapist (Temp, Nights)

Job Description

Registered Respiratory Therapists perform evaluations and administer respiratory care treatments according to physician orders and protocols. Responsibilities include:

• Assembling, checking, and troubleshooting respiratory equipment
• Assessing patient cardiopulmonary status and collecting clinical information
• Conducting therapeutic procedures for ventilation and airway maintenance, including care of artificial airways and secretion removal
• Evaluating and monitoring patient response to respiratory care and modifying care plans as needed
• Educating patients on care plans, therapy, and goals
• Initiating or modifying respiratory care techniques in emergency settings
• Performing procedures listed in general and critical care competency checklists and interpreting results
• Adhering to infection control policies to protect patients
• Providing care within the established scope of practice for Respiratory Therapists
• Registered Respiratory Therapists with at least 2 years of critical care experience may perform adult endotracheal intubation in code blue situations after training and competency validation
• Reviewing patient records and recommending diagnostic procedures
• Selecting, obtaining, and ensuring cleanliness of respiratory equipment
• Serving as a resource for complicated respiratory care cases and providing in-service education

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Adult Critical Care experience (required)
• Emergency Department experience (required)
• Neonatal/Pediatrics experience (required)
• Experience with all patient populations (required)
• Cerner EMR experience (required)
• Active Illinois Respiratory Care License
• Active American Heart Association certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS
• Active Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Active NBRC Certification
• Work history and skills checklist current to within 1 year, pertinent to RRT specialty
• Two supervisory reference forms with dates of employment

Additional Information

• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility (local candidates are not eligible)
• Prior employment with the facility within the last 2 years disqualifies eligibility
• Nonbillable hours: 16 hours per assignment

This position requires a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist comfortable working nights and capable of managing a broad range of patient populations in critical care and emergency settings.
