Registered Nurse (RN) – IMC Stepdown Unit

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Intermediate Care (Stepdown/PCU)
• Number of Beds: 30
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-6 depending on patient acuity
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cath lab, seizures, alcohol withdrawal (CIWA protocols), pacemakers, and more

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU nursing experience
• Comfortable with cardiac monitoring and managing cardiac drips
• Ability to titrate drips such as cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, angiomax

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including ADLs, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugar monitoring
• Interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify cardiac rhythms
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed (BiPAP, Airvo, trachs)
• Collaborate with respiratory therapists who manage breathing treatments and respiratory equipment
• Float to other inpatient units as needed; travelers are prioritized for floating

Staffing and Support

• Charge Nurse present each shift (day shift charge nurse usually does not take patient assignment; night shift charge nurse takes lighter assignment)
• Nurse aides/patient care technicians available to assist with patient care
• Hospitalist available as primary attending; on-call at night; no in-house intensivist 24/7
• Respiratory Therapist assigned to unit 24/7
• Telemetry/Monitor Technicians available 24/7

Scheduling

• Shift Hours: 7 AM – 7 PM (day shift)
• Scheduling: 4-week schedule with self-scheduling allowed; final schedule subject to approval
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday Requirement: May be included in holiday rotation
• No call or standby requirement

Additional Information

• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
• Orientation: 2 days general orientation + 1 day preceptor shadowing
• Must have an unexpired driver’s license and be within a 50-mile radius for submission
• Licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission
