Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist

Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)

Job Description

• Confirm physician orders, assess appropriateness, and ensure quality patient care.
• Notify healthcare team of any unusual patient reactions during treatment.
• Assess, evaluate, document, and monitor patient tolerance and response to therapy.
• Explain treatment procedures to patients and address concerns.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Perform respiratory/pulmonary procedures according to policy or protocol.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Set up and maintain respiratory equipment; administer medical gases and medications.
• Assist with stocking supplies and complete billing information for services.
• Participate in patient care teams and quality improvement programs.
• Provide education to patients, families, students, and healthcare professionals.
• Attend in-services, meetings, and conferences to stay current on techniques and procedures.
• Maintain proficiency in respiratory care skills as required by regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Ohio.
• Minimum of 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience.
• Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential.
• Certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
• Experience in an acute care setting.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 2 years clinical practice in an acute care setting in a similar area to the assignment.

Required Certifications and Compliance

• BLS (American Heart Association only).
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in Ohio.
• Fit Test for N95 respirators (within one year, updated annually).
• Health statement/physical exam within one year confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
• Unit-specific competency exam and skills checklist (updated annually).
• Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, OSHA topics (updated annually).
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • MMR (titer or 2 adult vaccines)
  • Hepatitis B (titer or complete vaccine series)
  • Influenza vaccine (required October-April)
  • 2-step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot)
  • Varicella (titer or 2 adult vaccines)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually.
• Criminal background check, OIG search, EPLS search, and education verification as per regulatory requirements.
• Social Security card or number verification.
