Description

Job Opportunity: Stepdown ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May be required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

  • First-time travelers: Accepted
  • Local candidates: Considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, and employment verifications required
  • Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcripts may be used as placeholder)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam updated annually
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
    • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
    • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
    • Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
    • Respirator medical clearance required annually
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background required before start

Work Environment

  • Acute care hospital setting
  • 286 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Epic
  • No parking cost for staff
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation

Notes

  • Facility may accommodate block scheduling upon approval but not guaranteed
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Travelers must complete orientation modules prior to start; failure to complete may result in being sent home
  • Radiation badge may be required for certain units (not applicable for this position unless specified)

This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry and stepdown ICU experience looking for a travel contract in South Carolina. Prior travel experience is not required.
