Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU

Location: Klamath Falls, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Patient types include cardiac, post catheterization/pacemaker, pneumonia, COVID-19, alcohol-related cases, ICU downgrades
  • No open heart patients on this unit

Shift Details

  • 12-hour shifts
  • Day shift: 05:45 AM – 6:15 PM
  • Night shift: 5:30 PM – 6:15 AM
  • Weekend requirement: Typically every other weekend (may vary)
  • Holiday requirement: Yes
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating: Not required, but may be requested if skill set allows and RN agrees

Staffing & Support

  • Charge nurse present in the department, acts as hospital supervisor 24/7
  • Nurse aides available (ratio approximately 8-9 patients per aide)
  • Remote telemetry support via central monitoring unit
  • Monitor techs available to assist
  • RNs read telemetry strips; basic rhythm interpretation experience ideal but not mandatory

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation (at least basic level)
  • Cardiac drip titrations (excluding pressors or sedation)
  • RNs are required to titrate insulin drips
  • Common titratable and/or set rate drips include:
    • Insulin
    • Heparin
    • Cardizem
    • Nitro
    • Amiodarone
    • Dopamine
    • Dobutamine

Orientation

  • Unit-specific orientation required
  • Duration: 1-2 shifts depending on experience and prior familiarity with the facility
  • Night shift orientation includes every other weekend scheduling

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • ACLS Certification
  • BLS Certification

Additional Information

  • Dress code: Clean and professional attire, no specific scrub color required
