Job Opportunity: Surgical Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: Surgical Room with 8 Operating Rooms total
• Shift: Monday – Friday, 06:45 AM – 3:30 PM (flexible start/stop times based on OR volume)
• On Call: Yes

  • Weekends: 2 weekends per month (call only)
  • Weekdays: 2-3 weeknights every week
• Holiday Expectation: 1 holiday (call only)
• Time Off Approval: Can approve up to 7 days of requested time off

Experience & Skills

• Minimum Years of Experience Required: 3 years in relevant specialty
• Patient Types / Common Cases:

  • Primarily cardiothoracic surgeries (CABGs, valve repairs, etc.)
  • May float to Main OR for general surgery, plastics, vascular, urology, gynecology, ENT, and robotics cases
• Floating: Yes, placed in a general surgery rotation
• Skills Required: Experience with cardiothoracic and related surgical cases

Licenses & Certifications

• Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)

Orientation

• New Employee Orientation (NEO)
• 1 shift in the department to learn workflow

Support & Resources

• Charge nurse available (does not carry patient load; staffs occasional cases)
• Unit secretary during the day
• Phlebotomy support
• Respiratory Therapist (RRT) available 24/7
• Hospitalist available 24/7
• On-call surgeons available 24/7

Technology & Equipment

• EMR system: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Medication dispensing system: Pyxis

This position is ideal for an experienced OR RN with a strong background in cardiothoracic surgery and flexibility to float to other surgical specialties. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required but will be reviewed if a first-time traveler.
