Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Department: Neuro ICU
- Unit Size: 18 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Rotating every other holiday
- Orientation: 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- Floating: Travelers float first; may float to intermediate (1:3 ratio) and general floors (1:4 ratio)
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
- Typical Procedures/Skills: Ventriculostomy care, NIH Stroke Scale certification, ventilator management, arterial and central lines, acute stroke management, tPA administration
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips as ordered by physicians; variety of drips used
Staffing & Support
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift; may take patient assignments if staffing is limited
- House Supervisor: Available 24/7
- Patient Care Techs/Nurse Aides: Yes, ratio approximately 9:1
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow devices
- Telemetry: Tele/Monitor techs staffed every shift; nurses read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS
Experience & Skills
- Required Specialty Experience: Neuro ICU nursing skills including ventilator management, stroke care, and line management
- Must be able to titrate drips and manage complex neuro ICU patients
- Prior travel experience: Not specified (assumed not required)

- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU RNs comfortable with high-acuity neurological patients and complex critical care nursing.
