Registered Nurse (MedSurg)

Location: Marianna, Florida

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• MedSurg RN position in a small community hospital with approximately 88 beds.
• Unit: MedSurg/Telemetry with about 28 beds.
• Shift: Midshift (11am - 7pm), Friday to Friday, 8 on / 6 off schedule.
• Guaranteed 72 hours every 2-week pay period.
• No float required, possible call.
• Floating to PCU required; without PCU experience, assignments limited to skill set.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday), with flexibility for more.
• Holidays: Travelers integrated into permanent staff holiday rotation.

Required Qualifications

• Current Florida RN license.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS and PALS preferred but not required.
• Minimum 1 year of MedSurg specialty experience.
• Some previous travel experience required (approximately 15-18 months total experience preferred).
• Experience with drips not required; if assigned, prior drip titration experience necessary.
• Ability to float to PCU (stepdown unit) with appropriate skill level.

Work Environment & Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:6, rarely 1:7.
• Telemetry monitored remotely in ICU; MedSurg nurses do not interpret cardiac strips.
• Occasional use of CPAP, BiPAP, or High Flow O2; no ventilators on unit.
• IV pumps (Baxter Sigma), cardiac monitors (Neon Kohden), and Omnicell medication dispensing system.
• EMR system: CPSI - Evident Thrive (user-friendly).
• No IV team; PICC and Midline certified staff assist with difficult IVs.
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; manages vents and respiratory treatments.
• Pharmacy not open 24/7; Omnicell used for medication dispensing.
• Charge nurse coverage varies by shift; senior nurse on nights.
• Nurse aides (PCTs) typically staffed at 4 per 24 patients.

Orientation & Training

• Pre-orientation packet provided.
• One-day on-site orientation covering policies, procedures, and unit specifics.
• Floor-specific orientation includes computer setup, charting system training, medication scanning, admissions, and discharges.

Additional Notes

• Clocking in/out via hospital system required; supervisors sign time cards.
• Housing available nearby for approximately $200/week.
• Preferred scrub color: navy (black or gray acceptable).
• No requirement to read or interpret cardiac strips.
• Drip titration protocols posted; rare to be assigned drip patients without experience.
• Emergency physician coverage 24/7 in ER; physician on-call system for other specialties.
