Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Dothan, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Schedule options: 3x12 or 4x12 shifts, accommodated according to traveler preference
  • Unit: Medical-Surgical overflow / Telemetry Unit
  • No local candidates allowed (must live outside a 90-mile radius)
  • Orientations every other Monday; contracts end on a Tuesday (Tuesday pay period)
  • Open to new travel nurses
  • High acuity environment with patient ratios of 1:6 or 1:7
  • Must be proficient with drips including Cardizem, Tridil, and Amiodarone
  • Block booking available; every other week (EOW) required
  • Scrub colors: All navy or navy pants with white top

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Alabama
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Proficiency in Cardizem and Tridil drips

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

  • Completion of facility-specific modules prior to orientation (deadline Friday before start)
  • APS Clearance Form and Registry results (Alabama Shirley’s Law) must be completed and cleared prior to orientation
  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no nose rings) within 72 hours of signing contract

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) strongly preferred or required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • NIH Stroke Certification (facility or AHA accepted, must be current)
  • Core competency exams (Core Exams I-III preferred; HIPAA attestation required)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine required unless exempted (religious or medical)
  • Flu vaccine required or documented exemption (masking required if exempt)
  • Immunizations or titers required for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap required only for Pediatrics unit (not applicable here)
  • TB Questionnaire required for all candidates

  • Candidates must live at least 90 miles from the facility to qualify
  • Hard deadline for compliance is 1 week prior to start date
  • Facility requires exact name match on all documents (license, driver’s license, social security card)
  • Orientation is unpaid and lasts 16 hours
  • Facility enforces strict vaccination and compliance policies with no exceptions for license renewal or background checks
