Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU
Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must have NICU experience; will work in a Level 3 NICU.
- Shift: Four 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, every other week.
- Minimum 2 years of experience required.
- Must have Level 1 Trauma experience.
- Draeger ventilator experience required.
- Floating between NICU and Pediatric units, as well as between multiple campuses, may be required based on census and staffing needs.
- Will work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- May be asked to orientate students or new hires.
Required Qualifications
- Current state license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- BLS certification.
- CRT or RRT credential.
- Minimum 2 years of specialty experience (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics).
- Level 1 Trauma experience.
- Draeger ventilator experience.
- NICU experience required.
Certifications (Must be current)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Competencies & Testing
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85% on NICU Pharmacology portion).
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024 or later; must score 80% or higher).
- Competency Exam specific to NICU.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to start; must be updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma requirements apply.
- Sex offender search required.
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days.
- Work history verification for the last 7 years.
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure may be required depending on assignment.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start; must be updated annually.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation.
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Varicella
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties.
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- COVID vaccination series preferred.
Additional Facility-Specific Training & Documentation
- Various mandatory training modules and attestations including but not limited to:
- Stroke Education (not required for NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (not required for NICU)
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (not required for NICU)
- AME Blood Administration Module (not required for Behavioral Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RRT)
- ED Handbook (not required for NICU)
- eCart Training Module (not required for NICU)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- EPIC charting system experience encouraged; testing or training may be required.
Work Environment
- Short term acute care hospital.
- Level II Trauma Center.
- Floating between NICU and Pediatric units, and between campuses as needed.
- May work holidays and every other weekend.
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Floating expectations require flexibility to support multiple units.
- Orientation of students/new hires may be part of the role.
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Respiratory Therapists with NICU and trauma experience who are comfortable working nights and floating between units in a fast-paced acute care setting.
