Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Ambulatory OR)
  • Shift Options:
    • 3 shifts of 12 hours (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
    • 4 shifts of 10 hours (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
  • Schedule Notes:
    • One late week per 4 weeks to complete cases
    • No weekends required
    • No on-call required
    • Possible floating within Perioperative facility
    • Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager’s discretion
  • Operating Rooms: 9 ORs available
  • Guaranteed Hours: Traveler may be called off up to 10 hours per 2-week period
  • Precepting: May be required to precept a care team member in the OR
  • Local Radius Rule: Locals accepted within 50 miles
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June-November (peak in August-September). Confirm availability accordingly.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (Ambulatory OR) RN experience
  • At least 1 year of Ophthalmology experience within the last year
  • Experience in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Experience in ENT Surgery
  • Experience in OB/GYN
  • Experience in Urology
  • Experience in Endocrinology
  • Experience in Surgical Oncology
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • NBSTSA certification

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including:
    • SSN Trace
    • County and state criminal checks (past 7 years)
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • National Criminal and FACIS 3
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated every contract renewal
  • Education verification (diploma or transcripts as placeholder if needed)
  • Primary source license verification (active, unencumbered SC RN license)
  • NURSYS verification for RN licensure
  • Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days prior to start
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination series)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination series)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive history
    • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Radiation badge required and must be obtained prior to starting patient care
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Medication and OR competency exams required
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers

Additional Notes

  • Travelers must complete facility-specific orientation modules prior to start; failure to complete will result in being sent home.
  • A clear, passport-style photo is required for badge issuance before start date.
  • Travelers may be required to float within the perioperative area as needed.
  • Radiation badge processing can take 5-7 days; candidates cannot start patient care without it.
  • Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be accepted.

This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of specialty experience, who hold a valid SC RN license, and have prior travel contract experience. The role offers a day shift schedule with no weekends or on-call duties, and requires compliance with extensive credentialing and health documentation.
