Registered Nurse - Ortho and Neuro Unit

Location: Amarillo, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a 35-bed Ortho and Neuro unit with Medical Surgical, Orthopedic, and Neuro patient populations.
  • Patient ratios approximately 1:6.
  • Float requirement to units of equal or lesser acuity.
  • Telemetry monitored in a centralized unit.
  • Free floating charge nurse role available.
  • Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians, Patient Transporters, and a house discharge nurse who floats across departments.
  • Documentation system: EPIC (experience required within the last 6 months).
  • Block scheduling handled on a case-by-case basis.
  • Scrub color: Any, no logos.
  • Local traveler rule: Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Orthopedics and Neurology nursing.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Experience with EPIC documentation system within the last 6 months.
  • Ability to float to units of equal or lesser acuity.

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; additional onsite drug screen during orientation.
  • Competency exams and color blindness testing as applicable.
  • Clear headshot photo for badge.

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in medical surgical, orthopedic, or neuro nursing, who is comfortable working in a fast-paced telemetry environment and has recent EPIC experience.
